Durgai Amman Painting

durgai,ambal,astha

Durgai Amman

  • The Goddess is so powerful that since her arrival at this temple, the original temple has lost its prominence and people throng for blessings from her only. The people of the locality and devotees from experience it far and near that a desire cherished in the mind while in her presence is fulfilled on return or soon after.
  • It has been the common experience of the devotees when they worship in this temple, after frustration in various attempts to get their daughters suitably married, that their desires have been fulfilled immediately after worshipping in the Durga temple.
  • The Temple: The black granite stone image ofGoddess Durga is imposing and awe-inspiring. The face looks so benign that the head of the devotee is reverently bowed down at the very sight of the image as we do to our mother at home.
  • The charming mother is standing on a lion with the head of a buffalo and the demon Mahishasura remains lurking in disguise in the buffalo’s side. She holds Sankha and Chakra in her hands. She holds a parrot in her left hand and the mane of the lion in the right. The Mother has eight hands holding different customary weapons for different occasion
  • The painting we see here is the Goddess of Aachaalpuram Sri Ashta Dasabuja Durgambigai with various weapons in her eighteen power sourced hands.  This deity is situated in Aachaalpuram – Tamilnadu- India – South.
  • The Goddess is called generally Durgai – that means Fort – which protects us, all time.  The various weapons we see in the hands of mother goddess protects our mind and soul from the raising bad thoughts, evilness, ill-conduciveness and bad happenings all other mortal matters.  Worshiping her will positively gives us energy, goodness and finally eternity.

Ambal,amman,kanchi

kanchi kamakshi

The deity you see in the painting is Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman – the powerful Hindu Deity named after the meaning who win our desires and gives us the boon of eternity and bliss.  You are also viewing the MAHA GURU , The Maha Swamigal Sri Sri Chandrasekarendra Swamigal who worships Mother goddess Sri Kamakshi Amman for the prosperity of the entire world.

Kamakshi Amman Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi a divine form of Parvati. It is located in the historic city Kanchipuram, near Chennai, India and is popularly associated with Adi Sankaracharya, one of the greatest Hindu saints. Along with Madurai Meenakshi, Thiruvanaikaval Akilandeswari, Vishalakshi Varanasi, Kamakshi is an important part of worship of Parvati.
It is interesting to note that the main deity is seated in a majestic Padmasana posture, an yogic posture signifying peace and prosperity, instead of the traditional standing pose in most other temples of Parvati. The goddess holds a sugarcane bow and lotus and parrot in the lower two of her arms (Many of the Hindu god forms generally have four arms) and has the two divine instruments Pasa and Angusa in her upper two arms.
It is interesting to note that there are no traditional Parvati or Shakthi shrines in the city of Kanchipuram, apart from this temple, which is unusual in a traditional city that has hundreds of traditional temples. There are various legends attributed to it. One of them according to Kamkshivilasa is that the Goddess had to absorb all the other shakthi forms to give boon to Manmatha (the Hindu god of fertility and love). Another legend attributes it to the Raja Rajeswari pose of the deity that signifies an absolute control over the land under its control, leaving no other forms of Shakthi.Legend has it that Kamakshi offered worship to a Shivalingam made out of sand, under a mango tree and gained Shiva’s hand in marriage.
This very painting is made of herbal extracts mixed with fabric paints and on canvas of size 35 x 45 cms with rich font colors.  The deity, mother goddess, painted here is the posture at Kancheepuram how the mother is seated in that holy place inside the KARPAGRAHA (- which represents any birth place of universe.)
Herbal extracts used:  Vilva leaves, Tulasi leaves, Arugam grass and sugarcane extract
Paints: Acrylic, fabric colorson CANVAS

The deity is a very powerful one who is made of medicines called NAVA PAASHANAM which means nine amalgamation of various 9000 kind of healing medicinal herbs.  It is a true theme that from the ancient days till now this lord is having such a value because of the very special matter that the very medicinal body of this beautiful lord is being dusted with holy ash and the ash is taken as medicine for various ailments. Its true that even incurable Diseases are cured when you have the “Prashad” of  this god.

Speaking the ancient happening now that this idol is made by one of the powerful saints called SAINT BHOGAR, who is very skilled in ayurveda medicine, that is the medicine prepared with 900 or 9000 various medical valued herbs and amalgamated, reduced to 9 special extracts and the very idol of LORD MURUGA is primed.

HISTORY:

For any deity in Indian Temples we use to pour water on the idol and perform (the pooja) the rituals,  but in South Palani Hills situated Lord Murugan is not of that type as because with various aromatic medicinal herbal extracts, right from the Vilva the medicinal evaluated herb Tulsi
(the botanical name is Ocimum Santum)

On consisting of 9000 kind of herbs mixed with certain kind of herbs and dried, homogenized, pasteurized, heated up with certain grade of heat, in certain calculated intervals and more chemical changes induced on those medicines and got 9 main medicines out of that called the “NAVA PASHANA” by which the idol of Lord Murugan has been made.

It is complete life saving drug like, medicine like, herbal mixture like what you say is absolutely based on the AYURVEDA one of the associated textual form of holy truthful sayings of language of god.

Believe it or not the faith and the medicinal value of the idol cures any kind of type of diseases. This fact is known to the South Indians especially Tamil and Kerala  people, all over the world.
